The community will be celebrating Arbor Day in conjunction with Paw Walk at Statesboro’s Downtown Dog Park on March 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m at 20 East Cherry Street. This F1RST Friday event will feature a brief history of Arbor Day by a member of the Statesboro Tree Board, followed by a live tree planting that will take place at the dog park. This very special Arbor Day celebration is made possible by the support of the Statesboro Tree Board and the Statesboro Beautification Commission.
This celebration will also feature the 5th Annual Paw Walk dog costume competition at the Downtown Dog Park. Any dog – big, small, young, or old – is invited to be a part of the competition. There is a small entry fee of $5, which will go to directly support the Downtown Dog Park. The furry competitors will be judged based on good behavior, creative costumes, and for simply being cute. The dogs will be separated into one of two categories based on size, with first through third place awarded to both categories.
Vendors of all types will be present to meet shopping needs and food cravings. The event is made possible by our wonderful sponsors. Downtown Statesboro’s Allen Muldrew said, “This First Friday March event is a wonderful opportunity to partner with Arbor Day as well as showcase the new Downtown Dog Park. Multiple partners have joined together to make our Downtown Dog Park something special. It will be enjoyed by the community for years to come.”
