Statesboro Art Park

The Statesboro Art Park is a pocket park located on East Main Street at the entrance of Downtown Statesboro. This is a railroad property that has been vacant. The Downtown Statesboro Devleopment leased this property for several years along with a property on Cherry St. with the idea of creating green space and passive parks that would beautify our community. The Cherry St. property has been redeveloped as the Downtown Dog Park. Phil Boyum, former District 1 Statesboro City Councilmember envisioned the art park to be a gathering place for people to enjoy local art and enjoy fresh air. The creative design became a reality. The  City of Statesboro leased from Norfolk Southern Railway and worked arduously to clean up and create the beautiful park. The City of Statesboro collaborated with artisans, the 2022 Leadership Bulloch Class, and a City of Statesboro Art Advisory Committee.

“Lemongrass” by Gregory Johnson. A visually captivating and emotionally resonant sculpture that merges form, motion, material, and light. Inspired by the artist’s life’s journey and nature’s curves, the artist created lyrical shapes that evoke familiar yet intangible feelings, challenging our minds and boundaries.

“Underfire” by Adam C. Walls. The sculpture is derived from the artist’s love of fantasy, escapism, and pop-culture imagery.

“Meditation Bench” by Glenn Zweygardt which explores the theme of finding one’s place in a relationship with nature, which allows the artist to share his collective experiences with others.

“Slider” by Duke Oursler. The sculpture was designed to embody balance, weight, and gravity, symbolizing harmony.
